Celebrate differences and diversity with the K’Road Karnival and Parade !!

INFORMATION ABOUT THE EVENT

This is the first information letter about the K’Road Karnival, as most of you know the street has never known anything like this before. Permission has been granted to close the street for a Parade, and support from the Auckland City Council Events Planning and the Police, St John’s, StageCoach, Metro Waste, Noise Control and Associates has been fantastic.

There is a lot to do, and still much to be organised, and a role for everyone to take, to benefit from this amazing opportunity to put K’Road back on the map, so lets start by outlining the activities planned so far.

Sat 27th 8am SATURDAY MARKETS

Set up.I’m sure the Markets will have their best day yet, and they will run until the street needs to be managed for later events.

9am RETAIL ON K’ROAD

Opens for sales and street trading. There is a blanket trading consent for the street that day, so take advantage of it by having tables outside and going on sale. There will be a Karnival atmosphere in the street, trading will be supported by street performers and sponsors events.

FRINGE FESTIVAL

The Auckland Festival is seeking venues for their fringe events. They have been supplied with a database of businesses, but feel free to contact them to make them aware of what you can offer 3090117, ask for Anja. These events will be through the month of September , but a focus will be on the Karnival day. The requirements there are food venues, music, spaces for small stages, venues for theatre, displays, and nightclub spaces.

If you need help with an extended liquor license to trade street cafe style, just touch base with this office for the assistance you need.

7pm ROAD CLOSURE BEGINS

The parade will assemble and dress their trucks in Cross St from 5 pm where the street will be closed till the start of the parade. K’Road will remain open until 7pm when the road closure applies to general traffic. Buses and emergency services will still have thoroughfare until 9pm. Closure is to Gundry St where the trucks can use Newton road to disperse.

9.30 K’ROAD KARNIVAL

This is where the real fun begins !! The Culture, Art, and Sexualities of K’Road can celebrate a world of difference in this amazing street. The parade will be made up of the people of K’Road and supporters, their countries and cultures on show, the art and performers, the alternative sexualities amongst us , and everyone will be free to express themselves, and celebrate who they are, where they come from and what they do !

Retailers are encouraged to have a truck, and be on show as one of the attractions of K’Road. There are supporters of K’Road taking the opportunity, and some special people have been booked to make it a totally unique celebration and entertainment night. Anyone wanting to take part in the parade, can be assisted with a truck contact, and decoration help by contacting the KBA Office. It would be wonderful if everyone was creative and entered a truck to show off their business in K’Road !

10.30-11.00 UPTOWN SOUNDS

It is planned that Beresford Sq will have an Uptown Sounds starting after the Parade. More information to come.

NIGHT-TIME

K’Road will come alive again on this night, and this means the nightlife on K’Road should think about the opportunity, and take full advantage.

Some are considering a special night with promotion, if this sounds like you, please contact me to tie in with other ads and promotions.

There is plenty of opportunity for everyone to be a part of this event, so put your thinking caps on and lets make the most of it !! If you have any questions, thoughts, need assistance, want to help, have a truck, promote your business, or participate in some way, just contact me at the KBA. Monthly meetings will include this event as an agenda item, but I will invite interested folk to separate Karnival meetings as required.
